Không một “phương pháp thần kỳ” nào có thể giúp bạn nghe tốt hơn nếu như bạn không nghe tiếng Anh thường xuyên. Những chương trình luyện nghe nói tiếng Anh hiệu quả được nhắc đến nhiều nhất hiện nay như Pimsleur hay Effortless English đều đòi hỏi học viên nghe thường xuyên, thậm chí mỗi ngày.
Nghe là việc đầu tiên và đơn giản nhất bạn có thể làm để tiếp xúc và trở nên quen thuộc với một ngôn ngữ mới (cho dù bạn chưa hiểu mình nghe được gì). Những đứa trẻ đã học một ngôn ngữ mới như thế nào? Chúng nghe tiếng Anh liên tục mỗi ngày, 365 ngày/ năm, suốt nhiều năm. Sau đó chúng mới bập bẹ tập nói và đến trường học đọc, học viết.

Nhiều bạn cho rằng chỉ cần nghe nhiều thì sẽ hiểu. Nhưng bạn hãy nghĩ xem, nếu bạn không hiểu, bạn nghe 100 lần, 1.000 lần cũng không hiểu. Có thể bạn sẽ nghe được, nhưng bạn không hiểu.
Đơn cử tiếng Việt chúng ta dạo gần đây xuất hiện nhiều từ mới mà các cô bác lớn tuổi không hiểu, ví dụ như “chém gió”. Nếu bạn nói “chém gió”, họ sẽ nghe được nhưng vẫn không hiểu. Họ có thể nghe được “Anh A đang chém gió”, nhưng họ không hiểu anh A đang làm gì. Cho dù bạn nói “chém gió” 1.000 lần, họ cũng không hiểu. Trừ khi bạn giải thích cho họ hiểu “chém gió” là như thế nào.
